Hi, All ! Greetings from the Music Studio of Sheli Nan.

This weekend, I was contacted by the marvelous conductor of The Albany Consort, Jonathan Salzedo. He leads a Baroque Chamber Orchestra and wants to commission a new piece from me in honor of his latest granddaughter.

These commissions frequently took place when someone in Baroque society wanted to celebrate the arrival of a new child, signing a contract, visiting royalty etc. In fact, this was an important aspect of the composer’s income . So once more I will place my music in the antique instruments of Jonathan’s band in order to celebrate a new young life added to his family!

In Late February, I will be going to Memphis where my two new songs PATHOS for Baritone and Guitarist will be performed at a NACUSA concert at the Beethoven Center.

My piece for string quintet, Body Parts, an authentically creepy piece, has been chosen to be featured by David Peoples – New Music coordinator for NACUSASE and there will be a CD release party in Memphis on this same trip south.

In Gratitude for You who listen,

Sheli Nan

Join Me for a Musical Journey:

I’m thrilled to share that I will be premiering two new songs for Baritone and Guitar titled PATHOS on February 8th at 2 pm at the Center for New Music (55 Taylor St, San Francisco). This performance will be repeated in Memphis, Tennessee, on February 22nd at the Beethoven Center with a new group of musicians.

And, I’m especially excited about the upcoming premiere of my new piece, “FLASH FORWARD,” for string orchestra on March 10th in New York City! I would love for you to join me for this event, and I warmly invite you to introduce yourself when you come. It’s going to be a fantastic experience, and I’d love to see fellow Wheatleyites there!

Thanks again for reading, and I look forward to seeing you at one of these concerts! 🎶

A voice for the 21st century.
In SAGA of the 21st Century Girl, I’ve crafted an opera that blends the past and present, addressing the struggles and triumphs of today’s world. This opera is a journey through identity, empowerment, and self-discovery, woven with a rich tapestry of music – Classical, Latin, African, and more.

Through this piece, I wanted to make opera feel relevant again, not just as a timeless art, but as a conversation that connects us all in the now. Join me in this exploration of modern life and the stories we’re all a part of.
